What is Hamdard Tila Azam?
A tila is a Unani medicated oil, made by cooking powdered ingredients in a base oil. Hamdard makes this one, and our oil range has more. Many shoppers search for Tila Azam Hamdard; both names point to the same bottle. The published list does not name the base oil, so read your label.
What is Tila Azam traditionally used for?
Medicated oils of this kind are applied on the skin in Unani practice, as the label directs. No result is promised, and people differ. The pack prints its own indications, so read them first and then talk to a qualified Unani practitioner. For background, see Unani and Ayurvedic medicine compared.
What is in this oil?
The published formula lists five ingredients.
| Ingredient | Source name | Part or form | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Khurasani Ajwain | Hyoscyamus niger | Seed | Toxic if swallowed |
| Burada Kuchla | Strychnos nux-vomica | Filings of the seed | Toxic when raw. Unani practice detoxifies it first |
| Mudabar Khas | Name as printed on the label | Processed | Mudabbar means purified. Check your label |
| Beer Bahuti | Trombidium species (red velvet mite) | Whole insect | Animal-derived |
| Beesh Siyah | Aconitum species | Root | Toxic when raw. Used only after purification |
Three of the five are toxic when raw, and makers purify them before use. One is an insect, so the oil is not vegetarian. Some sellers publish a different list, so match it to your bottle. The label is the final word.
How do you use it?
This oil is for external use only. Sellers describe the method differently, so follow the directions printed on your pack.
| Point | What to do |
|---|---|
| Where | Skin only. Never eyes or broken skin |
| Amount | A very small amount, as the label says |
| When | As the label or your practitioner advises |
| Duration | Only as long as your practitioner advises |
| Age | Adults only |
Pharmacist tip: before first use, put one drop on your forearm and wait 24 hours. Continue only if the skin stays calm, and wash your hands after every use.
Who should not use it?
- Children under 18, and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
- Anyone with broken, sore or infected skin.
- People with a skin allergy or a heart condition, unless their doctor agrees.
- Shoppers who want a vegetarian product, because of Beer Bahuti.
What are the side effects?
Redness, itching, burning or a rash can appear, and some people notice tingling or numbness. Rinse with mild soap and stop using the oil if so. Never swallow it, as the ingredients are toxic. If a child swallows any, go to a hospital straight away and carry the bottle.
How do you check that a bottle is genuine?
Check the licence number, batch number, expiry date and seal on the bottle. See our checklist for genuine Unani medicine and, if in doubt, ask our experts before ordering.
What is the Tila Azam oil price?
The pack of 2 costs ₹140 and holds 20 g in all, which is ₹7 per gram.

Is bare mein hum koi vaada nahi karte. Unani mein is tarah ke tel bahar se lagaye jaate hain. Asar har vyakti mein alag hota hai. Behtar hai ki pehle kisi qualified Unani tabeeb se salah lein, aur bottle ka label zaroor padhein.
Is it safe, and is it vegetarian?
It is not vegetarian, because Beer Bahuti is an insect. Three ingredients are toxic when raw, so never swallow the oil and keep it from children. Do a patch test, and stop if you see redness, burning or a rash. Ask a doctor first if you have a heart condition.
How do I know my bottle is genuine?
Check the maker name and address, licence number, batch number, expiry date and an unbroken seal on the label. Keep a bill that shows the batch number. Be wary of any oil that promises quick results. Our checklist for genuine Unani medicine explains every step.
