It is manufactured by Rex Remedies Limited, one of India’s older Unani medicine makers, at its factory on G.T. Karnal Road, Delhi. What is Rex Kaforex Syrup used for?
According to the manufacturer, Rex Kaforex is used for symptomatic relief of cough — both dry cough and cough with phlegm (sputum). Its herbs are traditionally described as soothing (demulcent) for an irritated throat and upper airway.
- Dry, tickly cough and throat irritation
- Cough with phlegm (wet or productive cough)
- Cough and chest heaviness that come with a common cold or flu
- The label also mentions mild constipation and low-grade fever that can come with a cold
It is a symptom-relief syrup. It does not replace a doctor’s treatment for chest infections, asthma, whooping cough or any long-lasting cough.

Who should not take Rex Kaforex?
Do not take Rex Kaforex without medical advice if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, diabetic, have high blood pressure, or take regular medicines.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women — Adusa (Vasaka) and Hyssop are traditionally avoided in pregnancy.
- People with diabetes — it is a sugar-based syrup (about 500 mg red sugar plus sugar in every 10 ml).
- People with high blood pressure, heart or kidney problems — Mulethi (liquorice) can raise blood pressure when taken for long periods.
- Infants and very young children — use only if a physician advises it.
- People on regular prescription medicines — check with your doctor for interactions.
See a doctor promptly if the cough lasts more than 2–3 weeks, or if there is high fever, breathlessness, wheezing, chest pain, blood in the phlegm, or “whooping” coughing fits in a child. These need medical evaluation and should not be managed with a syrup alone. You can also consult our Unani experts.
Does Rex Kaforex have side effects?
At the recommended dose, Rex Kaforex is generally well tolerated. A few people may notice mild stomach upset or loose stools, as seeds like Ispaghol and Alsi have a mild laxative effect. Stop taking it and see a doctor if you notice a rash, itching, swelling or any other allergic reaction.
